I Solemnly Swear I Am Up To No Good

So…there’s this…thing. It’s not really a SEKRIT thing, it’s just a…work in progress thing. My enabler handler friend Skyla Dawn Cameron has a project coming out soon [Patreon link: PAY UP, BECAUSE SHE IS MADE OF WIN] and has, despite both my better judgment AND willingness to participate in such shenanigans (who am I kidding? I’m always up for shenanigans!), convinced me to join her in its fruition. (She has a knack for doing this – she knows what buttons to push/tribute to offer.)

I can’t say much right now, as it’s still in development, but once the details are hammered out, I will share it with you.

I am up to no good. There will be vampires involved.

Living For September

I know.

I know how long it’s been since I last blogged here. (A month today, I see.) Honestly, I have no excuse for that other than general apathy. I am still blogging every other Monday over at the Evil League of Evil Writers with the “Ask Dr. Dina” series I’ve been writing since January, but other than that, haven’t been doing much with the online thing.

Yes, I’ve been busy. I’m working on stuff both professional and personal, and most of you who read my blogs/tweets/FB/whatever know I’m not a real joiner/sharer-type. (Yes, I’m aware of the irony of an anti-social person on social networks. Go with it.)

Blogging/Twittering/IRL socializing takes a back seat to a lot of things. It’s not real high on my priority list. Now, when I have something to say, I say it. When I have thoughts that I think are interesting, I share them (usually – politics/religiosity/activism are generally things I keep to myself for various reasons). When I’ve got something going on I think you’ll be interested to know, I’ll tell you (if I can). When I need to rant, I rant. (You all KNOW I rant….)

I don’t blog just for the hell of it. I know a few people who update their blogs daily for whatever reason, and if that works for them, yay! Some people need that connection. Some people have a rabid fanbase that gets bitchy if that person isn’t there to constantly entertain them with what they ate for breakfast that morning. Some people need to feel like they’re part of something, like they’re being heard.

I don’t have those needs, and if you’re one of my fans, you don’t have the need for me to entertain you daily, which is good, because I ain’t gonna.

I’m an introvert and always have been. As I’ve gotten older, that’s become a larger part of my nature. Oh, I can socialize. I’m not afraid to, or shy or anything. I’m just not very social. As I said above, human contact isn’t all that high on my priority list. This leads to a lot of “are you still alive?”-type questions, and for that I apologize. I know friends and fans worry when I “go dark” (so to speak – points if you get the reference!), but I promise you all, someone would let you all know if some tragedy (or on-purposory, like, you know…jail for some type of crime ending in “-cide”) occurred. Probably Skyla Dawn Cameron. She’s always a good one to pester if you’re worried about my silences.

Also, I’m pretty much in a type of reverse hibernation during the summer months. Summer in my area brings a lot of things that I have absolutely no desire to be involved in or associated with in any fashion, so I pretty much just go to ground from May through September. When the tourists and the Daystar go south for the winter, I come back out. Summer means long, hot, bright days full of people. Fall and winter mean long, cool, dark, quiet nights. Hot tea, warm socks, darkness, short days, darkness…did I mention it’s darker in the winter? Like lots of it? For a long time?

I may have.

So yeah. Summertime is not Dina-time. I’ll be around a lot more in about six more weeks. Even more in about nine weeks, when the autumnal equinox comes and the days start getting shorter. So don’t worry if you don’t see me around much until then. If I’ve got something of interest or import to say, I’ll post. Or if I have a rant that I need to let out.

Until then.

Oh, for those wondering, Death Knell (Stranger Things III) is on track still for a Fall 2013 release. No specific date yet, but I’m thinking late October, early November, but that could change. More as it develops.

Quick Updatey Thing

Five Things Make A Post!

1 – The Evil Auction is over, but we’re still working on coordinating people, payments, and donors, so bear with us on any delays. And there have been a lot of delays. I’m not going to say any more about that. I’m stabby and harried enough as it is.

2 – The second book in the Stranger Things series, Time Heals, is in the final stages of being prepped for release on March 26, so I’m a little busy with that at the moment, too.

3 – I’ve mentioned it before, but my friend Skyla Dawn Cameron is raising money for the MS Walk in her area in May, and she’d appreciate your sponsorship.

4 – There is eviltry afoot. I can’t share it with you right now, but I can tease you with “I know something you don’t know!” Stay tuned. Should be able to announce it in the next couple weeks. A lot of it depends on time and so on, and that’s kind of in short supply at the moment.

5 – This one is kind of cheating, as it’s similar to #4 up there, but it involves tea. That is all.

What? I said, “That is all!” That rant that’s forthcoming? Yeah…I’m still working on that. I’m so busy at the moment I can only growl occasionally when I remember it’s there.

Evil Auction Post – Round One Closing!

EvilButton1Most of you know about the Evil Auction by now. My partners in crime, Skyla Dawn Cameron and the rest of the Evil League of Evil Writers, and I have been busting our collective asses for the last ten days getting this thing organized, and it’s been a success beyond any of our imaginings. Thank you all, so much, donors and bidders, for helping make Round One over $3500 in pledges for Crestline Elementary School.

And that’s just Round One.

Alas, Round One auctions END TODAY! This evening at 5PM Pacific/8PM Eastern, these items will go to their highest bidders. I encourage you to take one last look, especially at items you may have already bid on, just to make sure everything is set, because once the clock strikes Auction’s End, Round One is over!

There is, of course, still Round Two, and there are some AMAZING items up for bid.

Just sayin’!

Program Complete. You May Enter When Ready.

It’s not 100%, but it’s close. There’s still some tweaking I need to do, but it’s essentially finished. Check out the new digs! A shiny new website I made all by myself! Well, not entirely “all.” I looked a a lot of other writer’s websites and various themes and layouts and decided on what functionality worked best for me.

There was vast amounts of techy work involved. I will now drink my tea and eat more chocolate in celebration of this occasion.

Have a look around. If anything doesn’t work for you or shows up funny, let me know and I’ll see what I can do to fix it. Please let there be nothing insanely wrong with this new site. I’m wary enough as it is!

Whoa. A Month? Really?

Um…hi.

Yeah, I know, it’s been awhile since I blogged. Like…almost a month. I have no excuse, really. I mean, I do – I’ve been sick and busy. That’s pretty much it. Lazy, too, really. Comes with being busy.

But what also comes with being busy is stuff getting done. I can’t tell you what stuff that is, because I don’t know – I don’t really see a lot of progress around here, so whatever I’ve been doing for the last month didn’t make a dent in my laundry. I’ll have to look into that. Anyway! I’m here now to share a few things with you. Here they are, in chronological order:

Thing 1) My Editor of Awesome, Skyla Dawn Cameron, has a book out today. Go buy it, read it, and love it. Buy her backlist, too. Just because. I mean, she has to eat if she’s going to be able to edit the books I write, so it’s win/win here. If you just don’t have the money this month, you’re in luck. Mel’s World is having a giveaway, as is Books Make Me Happy. Go enter and check out all the freebies offered with it!

Thing 2) So remember back in December when I won the Book of the Week award from Long and Short Reviews? Well, because of that awesome win (again, thank you, fans!), I’ve been nominated for the Book of the Year award. From their email:

Congratulations! Your book ALL WOUNDS received a “BEST BOOK” rated review last year and earned a spot in our LASR Best Book of 2011 poll. The voting will run from February 16 through 29, ending at midnight Eastern time on February 29.

Now, I’m up against some awesome authors, including my own Editor of Awesome, so I in no way expect to win this award/poll. But, if you’re feeling generous and want to toss a shout-out my way, I’d be appreciative. I’m in the “non-erotic” category on the left side of the poll.

Thing 3) I have a book coming out in two weeks.

Light In A Dark World Front Cover

Front Cover of Light In A Dark World Anthology by Skyla Dawn Cameron

Light in a Dark World: Legends of the Destrati is a collection of my short stories focusing on the various members of the vampire clan Destrati and its associates. Kyle will feature prominently.

This collection will be available from Mundania Press March 6, 2012. Note: In addition to three completely new stories, those previously published in the Mammoth books are available edited, rewritten, and extended in this anthology.

There are a lot of other differences between these stories and what I’ve written before, and you may not like it. Just be aware of that, and be sure and read the author’s note before reading the stories.

And there you have it! All the news I have at the moment.

Well, all the news I can remember at the moment. Cold medicine plays havoc with one’s mental faculties.

Sithmas Approacheth – The Holiday Card Post

(I’m totally recycling last year’s post. Like I do with the holiday decorations!)

SITHMAS IS COMING! SITHMAS IS COMING!

Okay, yes…I’m one of those people who started humming Christmas songs back in October. I know, I know. But I really love the holidays. Halloween used to be my favorite holiday until I came out of my Goth closet and could dress how I wanted to every day of the year and not care about being seen as a freak (for the record, I was 25), but now Christmas is my favorite.

Thanksgiving, however, is not to be overlooked. I mean, a foodie like me ignore a holiday that’s all about FOOD? PIE? LOTS AND LOTS OF PIE?! (Not to mention leftover pie!!) Great. Now I’m hungry. And there are pies in the kitchen. I shouldn’t write about pie before breakfast….

Anyway, what was I writing about? I mean, before my stomach started doing the writing? Oh, yeah! The holiday spirit!

Okay, here’s the deal: I’m making my holiday card list.

Yes, you heard right. No, I’m not too early. It’s nearly Thanksgiving! I mean, by the time I get the list done and cards mailed, I’ll be right on time!

I am setting a deadline for you all, though. If you want to be on my holiday card list, post a comment on my website by Sunday, December 4th (don’t worry, these will be screened!) or e-mail dina [at] dinajames [dot] com with your snail mail addy, and I’ll send you a holiday card. If you got a card from me last year, you’re still on my list, but if you’ve moved, don’t want one, or otherwise changed your address, let me know! I keep the list for subsequent use year to year, but will remind you all yearly to send me any updates. I realize people move about and change names and such.

If you’ve won something from me or I’ve otherwise sent you something in the last year, your name has likely been added to the card list. If you want a card, let me know, because I have them printed up in small batches and need to know how many to order.

If you’re feeling in the holiday spirit yourself and would like to return the favor, here’s my address:

Happy Sithmas!

Last Stop on the All Wounds Blog Tour!

Whew! It’s been a whirlwind these last two weeks! Thank you again to all my hosts and reviewers!

Today I’m over at JA Saare’s blog. There’s a fun interview up. I answer some very deep questions.

I’m also participating in this year’s National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). If you’re there and want to buddy me, go right ahead.

Today I have a long to-do list. I don’t even want to think about everything I need to get done. It’s mostly hours on the phone and packing up parcels for giveaway winners!

Later, all!
