This Pleases Me

Pack

Pack

You are a shapeshifter of the Pack. Family is the most important thing to you. You don’t trust outsiders and while you’re fanatically loyal to your friends, you’re courageous and aggressive and emotions tend to occasionally get the better of you. You value loyalty, obedience, restraint, and duty above all.

More about the Pack and other factions: http://kate.ilona-andrews.com/category/factions/

Which Faction do you belong to?

If you haven’t read Ilona Andrews’ work, DO IT NOW. Start Kate Daniels with MAGIC BITES then go from there, and start the EDGE series with ON THE EDGE.

Because they RULE.

Darkness Falls

Yet another SOPA post. This one is just to remind regular readers of my blog that my site, along with thousands of others, will be going dark tomorrow in protest of SOPA and PIPA. If you’re not familiar with what these things are, click here and see what all this is about.

There’s more about it here: http://sopastrike.com/.

Just a quick reminder. See you when this is over. For awhile anyway. If this bill passes, I may not be seeing you at all, ever again.

So if the internet is important to you, get involved. You know I hate politics. This isn’t politics. This is the criminalization of innocent people (like me) in order to punish a few assholes. This is Hollywood studios not wanting to get off their lazy asses and spend the money to go after these fuckwads on their own. Instead they’ll spend billions of dollars in lobbying Congress and the Senate to pass these stupid bills because they think it’s better to punish everyone to get their way instead of doing what “regular people” like me and you do in order to stop online piracy. You know, sending notices and so on. Tracking down pirates. Whatever. There are already laws designed to protect the copyright holders and stop online piracy.

THIS IS NOT THE ANSWER.

I’ll stop ranting now. Enjoy it. It might be one of the last rants you hear from me. Freedom of speech is under attack, so if you like my rants, scream at your Congressperson/Senator. TELL THEM YOU WANT YOUR DINA RANTS!

That is all.

Evil Bloggery

It’s been awhile since I said anything here about my bi-monthly contributions to the Evil League of Evil Writers blog, so I’ll just toss in a reminder here. I post there every other Monday. Today I’m talking about your argument being invalid.

Stop by. Enjoy. Comment if you feel like it. Pass it on to others you think need a dose of evil in their lives.

For we are the Evil League of Evil Writers.

Big Red Button Post

SHORTEST FUNDRAISER EVAR. OMG. It’s totally done. I should use the Big Red Button more often. Carry on! – Dina

What’s the Big Red Button? It’s the one that always gets pushed in movies to make things happen. I’m pushing mine. Why? Because my Editor of Awesome needs a new shiny.

If you can chip in and help Editor of Awesome buy a new tool so she can make my books come out faster (after…you know…I write them), that would rule. (And I will let you live when I rule the world.)

Also, you know…you’ll get my books faster. You all want that, right?

In the words of Captain Picard of the USS Enterprise: MAKE IT SO. *presses the Big Red Button*

Exception to my Not Real Political/Activisty Policy

I’ve talked before about SOPA.

This time I’m screaming about it. Via my friend Audry Taylor on her Facebook:

A TOTAL BLACKOUT is being threatened by AOL, Google, Facebook, eBay, PayPal, Twitter, Wikipedia, Yahoo and many more major companies if Congress is dumb enough to try and pass SOPA. Be prepared to say goodbye to everything you use, either temporarily out of protest — or possibly forever if SOPA passes. http://matadornetwork.com/change/google-amazon-facebook-may-shut-down-to-stop-sopa/

This blog is a WordPress blog, hosted through another company that hosts my website. My domain name is registered through another. THIS AFFECTS ME and will ultimately affect you as well. I use Google all the time for so many things. If you use Gmail, Yahoo mail, anything, chances are good you’re not going to even be able to access your email if this happens.

Something has to be done.

A quote from the above article:

According to the watchdog group Maplight, right now pro-SOPA contributions to Judiciary Committee members outweigh contributions from those opposed about 4 to 1.

As I said on Twitter, it’s a crying shame that in America law is made by those who can buy the most votes. Anyone who knows me knows I hate politics. I even wrote something about it once. It was called “Apathetic Isolationism – the Rant of the Disillusioned American.” I wrote it in 2004, so this political hatred of mine is nothing new.

Point being, stop SOPA. I’ve limited my concerns to things that I can do something about, and I’ve already done what I can to stop this idiocy. I’ve written my congressman (yeah, like he’ll care) and have posted info in various places where people might still see it and maybe pass it along.

And that’s all I can do. I’ll go make with the words now, and hopefully we’ll still have an internet by the time I get done with this novel.

Remember the 80s, when the Internet wasn’t an everyday thing? Want to go back to that? That’s what this bill is going to do. It’s going to bust technology back 25 years or more, and if that’s what you want to happen, do nothing. Let’s not even talk about the freedom of speech aspect. I have work to do.

A Win, I Has It! Thank You, Fans!

To all friends, fans and family:

THANK YOU!

Because of your readership, I’ve won the Book of the Week award at Long and Short Reviews!

LASR Book of the Week

I know it's pink. Shut up.

Again. WOW. Vote for me?

Normally Google Alerts tells me about reviews and such, but sometimes it misses for whatever reason. It missed this one, so the email I got yesterday was a bit of a (nice) shock.

Not only did it contain a link to a stellar review and a shiny button with which to show it off, but it informed me that All Wounds had been nominated for Book of the Week on their site! From their mail [sic]:

Your story “All Wounds” was reviewed by us this week here: http://longandshortreviews.blogspot.com/2011/12/all-wounds-by-dina-james.html and is up for Book of the Week honor this weekend (voting runs from Saturday, December 10th through December 11th). We thought you might like to know. You can find the information here on Saturday:

http://www.longandshortreviews.com/LASR/index.htm

Wow. WOW, I say. So what happens if I win this nomination? Again, from their email:

The winning author gets a nifty button and the privilege of having their book or story featured at the top of the Long and Short Reviews home page the entire next week, as well as getting a custom made animated banner from Goddess Fish Promotions to publicize their review and the win!

That’s a pretty sweet deal. I like shiny banners and promo!

So if you liked All Wounds, would you mind heading over to the review site and voting for me? There’s no registration (that I saw) and it’s just one click on my name then one for the vote button! (You can also click to see the results once you’ve voted!)

Thank you, lovely friends and fans!

Best Book Rating from LASR!

OMG I Did It

NaNo Winner Badge

50k in 30 Days

50k in 30 days. They’re not the best words in the world (in fact, they’re quite crap), and will probably never see the light of day, but I did it.

I can’t help but be just a little bit proud of this. I accomplished the goal I set and learned a lot about discipline.

Now I deserve a shot of tequila and have earned myself a nice dinner at one of my fave restaurants. For this is the reward I have promised myself.

I will probably never do this again. But I’ve done it.

I’ve even signed up with some friends for an unofficial continuation in December. 30k this time in 30 days. We’re using the hashtag #30in30 on Twitter if you want to join in!

I will now go collapse.
